Attention parents of Queens’ upcoming athletes: A sports camp led by collegiate coaches is currently registering for the summer season.
C.W. Post, a college of Long Island University, has begun registering students for its new summer camp, the Pioneer Sports Academy. Students at the camp will be instructed by the coaches of the C.W. Post Pioneer Division II athletic teams and their assistants, who will be demonstrating skills, running drills and focusing on the fundamentals of the sport.
“This is a great way to build a child’s confidence while having fun,” said Dorene Angevine, the director of youth programs at C.W. Post. “Students who attend the Pioneer Sports Academy will have the opportunity to play and learn from outstanding coaches and staff who know their sports inside and out.”
The camp will be open to children aged 7 to 17, who will be split according to age, skill level and experience. Eight different camps will be offered, including boys lacrosse, baseball, football and basketball, and girls lacrosse, softball, basketball and field hockey. Each camp will run for a one week period from late June to early August. They are held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration for the camp costs $450. The cost includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.
Children can also be signed up, at additional cost, for an after-camp program through C.W. Post’s Summer Day Camp, which goes until 6 p.m.
Interested parents can attend an open house that will be held on Sunday, April 11, at 9 a.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
