Hofstra offering new radio and TV course

Hofstra University Continuing Education presents a glimpse into the world of broadcasting with a new course, The New World of Radio and Television Broadcasting. The eight-week course on Saturday mornings begins on April 10.

The television, radio and Internet industry are changing dramatically – almost on a month-to-month basis. The introduction of new technologies, the need to be a convergent broadcaster and finding clarity in a specific broadcasting field prompted the decision to run this course.

In this intensive course, students will learn how to assemble a newscast, including anchoring, writing, editing and reporting, weather casting, traffic reporting, TV interviewing, entertainment reporting, marketing and other fields.

The experience includes performing in front of the camera and behind the microphone, using Hofstra University’s state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, as well as News 12 mentors and recording facilities. Each student will leave the course with a demo CD. The course is open to students ages 14 to adult and is taught by seasoned broadcast professionals.

Instructors include veteran broadcasters Ed Ingles (WCBS Radio), Ben Mevorach (1010 WINS Radio), chief meteorologist Bill Korbel and anchor/reporter Danielle Campbell (News 12), Susan Murphy (assistant dean, Hofstra University School of Communication), Mel Granick (public relations director, Mercy Hospital), plus Hofstra University professors Greg Smith and Doug Morrow.
