Local kids paint the town for cops

Police Captain Johnny Ramirez, (front and center) Executive Officer of the 109th Precinct, takes custody, so to speak, of a set of four murals to be installed around the skylight of the precinct’s desk room in Flushing.

The panels, depicting local scenes, were created by Precinct Council volunteers – boys from Holy Cross High School in Flushing and girls from St. Agnes in College Point.

“These kids are great and the murals will brighten things up,” Ramirez raved. Council President (far left) Chrissy Voskerichian and Vice President Vana Partridge (far right) couldn’t agree more.

The trio also had praise for Partridge’s sister, Xanthippe Stylianou (second from right) an art teacher who worked with the kids over several weekends on the project.

Holding up the panel are David Oswald (left) and John Petinos, while (from left) Vladimir Michel, Shamica Dieudonne, Adrian Russo, Wendy Camacho, Rebecca Gonzalez and Brittani Catapano flank Ramirez.

Unfortunately, artists Betsy Michaca and John Petinos couldn’t be there for the unveiling of this panel, depicting Citi Field, the No.7 Train and a stylized scene of Union Street storefronts – where all the signs say “Unity” in different languages.
