Summer reading kickoff in LIC

The Queens Library is excited about summer, and their customers should be too!

The library is kicking off Summer Reading 2010 with a five-star extravaganza, and everyone is invited. The featured event, which will be held in coordination with this year’s theme “Summer in the City, Make a Splash!,” will take place on Thursday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the P.S. 111 schoolyard. The school is located at 37-44 21st Street, next to the Queens Library in Long Island City.

The Queens Library is trying to send the message that summer reading is for everyone, and they are inviting people of all ages to the kickoff event. There will be prizes, parties, fun and friends.

The fun-packed schedule for June 10 is:

10 a.m. to 11 a.m. City in Motion: Meet award-winning author Rita Garcia-Williams, who has written the books Fast Talk on the Slow Track, Like Sisters on the Homefront and Blue Tights. Enjoy live performances with students from Talent Unlimited High School, performers from Bindlestiff Family Cirkus and break dancers from Full Circle Soul.

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. City in Action: Participate in a journal-making program offered by the Queens Museum of Art. Learn to juggle with the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus and get your face painted with Clown Magic.
