Teen mass draws youth to St. Helen’s

Andrea Mercatante thinks the teen mass was a “good first step.”

On Sunday, June 27, St. Helen’s in Howard Beach hosted the spiritual event at 8 p.m. for area youth to be a part of the celebration and become closer to God.

The mass, which kicked off the summer schedule, had music geared toward the younger generation, and the kids got involved as ushers, liturgical readers and more. They even got to have a meeting with Monsignor Al LoPinto afterward.

Mercatante, of the St. Helen’s Youth Ministry, told The Courier that there is “definitely an interest” for more events.

“They want to meet more often,” she said, noting that there will be a mix of social and spiritual happenings in coming months.

In fact, in August there will be a Friendship Day and in September, St. Helen’s kicks off its 50th anniversary celebration.
