This Saturday night, July 31, two of the most prolific oldies performers will be live in concert at Christ the King High School in Middle Village.
The Duprees and Kenny Vance & the Planotones will be on stage starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Duprees gained popularity for their romantic interpretations of some of the most recognizable love songs. They have continually given new life to old hits. As explained on their web site, if you take the Glenn Miller arrangements of the 1940s along with the tunes of Joni James, Frank Sinatra, Jo Stafford, and Nat King Cole (just to name a few) and put them together, you have the sound of The Duprees.
Kenny Vance & The Planotones’ songs are influenced by the music of the 1950s and 1960s, such as the hit song “Looking for an Echo.” The group consists of Kenny Vance, Johnny Gale, Kurt “Frenchy” Yahijan, Jimmy Bense, keyboardist Chip Degaard and Tony Gallino on drums.
JES Entertainment is the presenting these shows, as well as future concerts, starting in October at Queens College’s Colden Auditorium. On Saturday, October 9 over 10 performers will be live, including The Cavaliers, Lenny Coco and the Chimes, The Dubs, Norman Fox and the Rob Roys, The Jarmels, The Knockouts, Sheps Limelights, The Paragons, Vito Piccone and the Elegants, The Bobbetts and more.
Ticket prices for the July 31 concert are just $30 for all reserved seating. For tickets and information seven-days-a-week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., call 718-423-8394.
