“The best food is here in Queens,” said Seth Bornstein of the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) who is gearing up for the coming Discover Queens Restaurant Week taking place on September 20-23 and September 27-30. “We expect a lot of participation.”
Last year, 80 Queens restaurants specializing in 30 different types of cuisine participated in restaurant week, which offers a boost to local economies and creates some new favorite spots for couples and families to enjoy yearlong. For newly-opened restaurants, it’s an opportunity to increase exposure in the neighborhood and raise the incentive for customers looking to try a new eatery.
“Queens is at a unique time right now where there are just enough ‘foodies’ that will enjoy a program like this,” said Alejandro Cantagallo, chef at Floresta, a participating restaurant in their first year. “Weekdays that are typically slower will become increasingly busier.”
“We will have a special menu ready,” said Lucette Sonigo of French eatery La Baraka. “We are hoping for a lot of customers this year.” La Baraka has participated in restaurant week for the past three years.
