It’s a family affair at Strawberry’s, the newest family-friendly sports bar in Douglaston owned by hometown hero and member of the Mets Hall of Fame, Darryl Strawberry. His brothers, Michael Strawberry – the restaurant’s maître d’ – and Ronnie Strawberry have helped create a successful first month in business.
“Everybody love these guys . . . Darryl is a people person. He comes in as often as he can,” said Strawberry’s Sports Grill general manager Christopher Rhodes.
Strawberry’s opened on August 5 to a large crowd of curious Queens residents who got more than a glimpse of one of their favorite baseball players. In the restaurant, you can find Darryl’s locker from Shea Stadium, the 1996 and 1998 World Series Trophies dedicated by Charlie Hays and Chuck Knoblauch, respectfully, and other memorabilia from the storied 1986 Mets.
Chef Jay Lippin includes everything you would want from a sports bar menu including burgers, ribs, barbecued chicken, nachos and more.
“People sit down and are blown away,” said Rhodes about the food. “We have big crowds almost every night.”
Darryl Strawberry is the Mets all-time leader in home-runs, runs batted in and walks and was the first overall draft pick in 1980.
