Extend the van route

"Van service provides relief in NE Queens" (Bob Doda — September 23) is great news for former Q79 Little Neck Parkway bus riders. Why not make this service even more attractive for customers and financially viable for the van operator so they can stay in business? The van operator must survive on sufficient riders providing fare box revenues as there is no city subsidy.

NYC Taxi and Limousine Commissioner David Yassky should negotiate with the Village of Floral Park. Extending this service three blocks beyond Jericho Turnpike to the Floral Park LIRR Station would provide connections to Jamaica and Flatbush Avenue Brooklyn not

available on the Port Washington branch. This would offer patrons additional options attracting other users.

In the past, residents of Floral Park practiced the NYMBY (Not In My Back Yard) philosophy refusing to grant permission extending the Q79 to their LIRR Station. Floral Park residents didn’t want large 40 foot MTA buses on their streets. Perhaps they will accept smaller commuter vans.
