Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano presided over a graduation ceremony on Monday, September 20 at LaGuardia Community College for 87 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and 34 Paramedics of the FDNY Emergency Medical Service. These new members have successfully completed rigorous training programs at the department’s EMS Academy at Fort Totten in Bayside.

"Our graduates represent the best that we have to offer and the future leadership of FDNY EMS," Cassano said. "They are committed to serving the people of this city by helping respond to the 1.2 million calls EMS receives each year."

Among the diverse group of graduates, 17 languages are spoken, including Spanish, Cantonese, Ukrainian, Serbian, Armenian and Polish.

The new members will be assigned to various EMS stations throughout the city.
