JCAL has new classes

Jamaica – There is a buzz in the air at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. The staff is busy preparing for the Fall Family Fun Day, scheduled for Saturday, September 11, from noon to 5 p.m. This event kicks off JCAL’s fall semester and will introduce the many changes in store.

“We are very excited about the upcoming semester. There are so many new and exciting things happening this fall,” said Philip Willis, Executive Director. “We added new classes, revised the workshop schedule and changed pricing to better meet the needs of our students.”

Dubbed the Creative Kids Zone, Saturday workshops will cater to children ages 3-13. And for parents waiting for their children, new aerobic workout classes will be offered.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, adults can come and unwind. There are a variety of visual arts, music and dance workshops to choose from like Latin dance, keyboard, and drawing and painting.

“Another big change happened over the summer,” said Willis. “A major renovation project began at JCAL. With the completion of the first phase, we now have brand new dance studios, which we know the students will love.”

Due to the ongoing construction at JCAL, the Fall Family Fun Day will take place at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, located at 153-10 Jamaica Avenue. There will be arts and crafts, a DJ, face painting, previews, and fall workshop registration. Bring the whole family. Admission is free.

JCAL’s fall semester begins September 14. Workshop registrations are accepted through September 25. For a list of workshops and a schedule of events, visit www.jcal.org or call 718-658-7400 x123.
