Subway stop shut over mysterious package

FOREST HILLS — Police shut down the 71st Street-Continental Avenue subway station in Forest Hills Tuesday morning after a suspicious package was found by the station’s stairs.

The station was closed a little after 10:15 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m. after police said an abandoned suitcase was found at the bottom of the station’s staircase. Streets around the station were shut down for about the same period of time, police said.

Police did not reveal what was in the suitcase but did say it did not pose a danger to commuters. No arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
