Delicious affordability at Pitaria

Pitaria is the latest addition to Astoria’s impressive collection of Greek restaurants – and with its affordable prices, there is reason to believe that their cuisine will become a neighborhood mainstay.
Offering Greek specialties alongside pizza, calzones and pasta dishes, Pitaria greatest asset is its wide variety of flavor experiences. Chef and owner Nicos Gregoriou prepares all of his menu items to customers’ tastes and with their wallets in mind.
The delicious affordability begins with Pitaria’s appetizer menu. Hungry customers can’t go wrong with the falafel, which pairs wonderfully with any of their accompanying dips; tzatziki, hummus, taramosalata, fava or tahini.
Pitaria offers two types of sausages on their appetizer menu, both of which deserve your attention. Try the sheftalia, a Cypriot seasoned sausage dynamically flavored with onion, parsley and pepper. The loukaniko, or country sausage, is flavored with fennel and spices and is best eaten with any of the spreads on warm pita bread. Also, try the spanokopita, or spinach pie, for a flakey and creamy starter.
For entrées, customers can choose from many different Greek and Italian specialties. The doner platter combines succulent, slow roasted rotisserie lamb and veal with French fries or rice, side salad, pita and tzatziki sauce for under $10. Pitaria also offers chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, traditional gyros and falafels as either a sandwich or platter.
Other Greek specialties include a roasted chicken, mousaka, vegetarian mousaka and pasticcio all for under $10. Their Italian specialties range from pizza and calzones to classic pasta and meat dishes.
Pitaria also serves steaks, chops and seafood for those with a heartier appetite. The rib-eye steak is cooked to order and is served with potato or rice with a cup of soup or salad. They also offer grilled salmon, grilled shrimp, lamb chops and pork chops.
However, one cannot leave Pitaria without eating the source of that wonderful aroma: their beefy, char-grilled burgers. They offer four burgers, all for under $6, that range from the standard burger with your choice of toppings to the Pitaria Burger, which comes with grilled onions, mushrooms, feta cheese and guacamole.
They are the newest Greek restaurant on the block, but Pitaria is destined for a mythical reputation.
