Modern Family actress visits P.S. 41

A familiar face that local youngsters have seen on the TV screen got up close and personal with students at P.S. 41 in Bayside as Ariel Winter addressed students at a recent school assembly.

A native of Los Angeles, CA, Winter is best known for her role as Alex Dunphy on the NBC hit comedy “Modern Family.” However, she is also no stranger to the big screen as she is currently filming a movie called “The Chaperone” and is set to star opposite Eddie Murphy and Kerry Washington in the DreamWorks film, “A Thousand Words.”

The P.S. 41 audience, which consisted of faculty and students, listened as Winter sang two new singles entitled “Painting Flowers” and “Good Girls like Bad Boys” as well as answering questions from the students.

“I wanted to sing and I wanted to put my lyrics into melodies and be able to share them with everyone,” said the 12-year-old actress.

Students of all ages at the school were excited to have the television star come speak with them, and Winter also enjoyed the opportunity.

“ I do what I love to do. There are special people, like teachers who help kids learn, they help kids become doctors or become anything they want,” said Winter.

Winter, who stayed after the assembly to take pictures, and she even autographed one student’s last dollar, which the person had saved for an afternoon treat.

“They are really special kids and without them I wouldn’t have gotten my chance to get up and perform for them,” Winter said.

In addition to P.S. 41, Winter has performed at other local schools including P.S. 94, P.S. 129 and the Buckley Country Day School on Long Island.

Winter also said she was preparing to showcase her vocal talents by performing the National Anthem at the New Jersey Devil game on Monday, November 22.

“It’s a new experience for me, I never sang in front of thousands of people,” she said.
