Keep tax on rich

The Queens Civic Congress (QCC), a coalition of major neighborhood-based civic organizations is calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state legislature to extend the so-called millionaires tax past December 31, when it is due to expire. QCC is the only borough-wide group of its kind in the city.

QCC president Patricia Dolan called on Governor Cuomo, Speaker Sheldon Silver and Majority Leader Dean Skelos to support retention of the Personal Income Tax Surcharge to offset cuts in the governor’s executive budget that Dolan said are "squarely aimed at middle class families who cannot possibly duplicate services they would lose."

She also pointed to the severe cuts in health, education and social services that would force the city to cut services to residents.

The Personal Income Tax Surcharge levies an additional 1 percent tax on individuals with net incomes of more than $200,000 and on families with net incomes of more than $500,000.
