Pia Toscano makes ‘American Idol’s’ top 12

Thanks to the votes of “American Idol” viewers, Howard Beach’s Pia Toscano has moved on in the competition and will complete this week as part of the show’s top 12 contestants.

During the Wednesday, March 9 show, the contestants performed songs by their own idols. Toscano, 22, chose to sing Celine Dion’s “All By Myself,” which she dedicated to her father.

“Ever since I was eight-years-old I’ve loved Celine Dion. She’s very family-oriented and I am as well,” she said during the show. “It’s a very emotional song and I can really connect with it. I’m really hoping to make my dad proud night.”

At the conclusion of her performance, Toscano once again got positive feedback from all three celebrity judges. Jennifer Lopez said that, after Toscano’s previous performance of “I’ll Stand By You,” there were probably a lot of people wondering how she’d be able to top it. With “All By Myself,” Lopez felt Toscano did in fact top herself and called it “really, really beautiful.”

Randy Jackson said Toscano “hit the notes dead on” and that she has “such a natural gift.” He added that he thought it was a “very hot, dope, cool performance” and that he loved it.

“You just slammed it,” Steven Tyler added. “That was beautiful.”

Toscano found out that she made it through to the next round during the Thursday, March 10 results show.

To see how Toscano does this week, watch “American Idol” on FOX at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Voting, which can be done by calling, texting or online, begins at the conclusion of Wednesday’s episode with results being revealed the following night.
