Czech artist at Town Hall

Czech artist Tibor Cervenak is currently making his United States debut through an exhibition on display at Flushing Town Hall.

“Solo For Gold/Blue – Tibor Cervenak” opened at Flushing Town Hall on Sunday, April 3 and will remain on view through Saturday, April 23. Cervenak is a symbolic abstract artist who has shown his work throughout Europe.

“At Flushing Town Hall, we are a catalyst for developing and promoting the arts, and we see ourselves as a bridge to promote intercultural understanding through the arts,” said Flushing Town Hall Executive and Creative Director Ellen Kodadek. “This exhibition fits perfectly with our mission, especially because the work is inspired by jazz and classical music, which is an integral part of what we present here at the hall.”

While being inspired by music forms like jazz, classical and pop, Cervenak’s work “explores the synergy and kinship between audio and visual art.”

A native of the Czech Republic, Cervenak first began painting when he was nine years old. By the time he was 14, he had already had his first solo exhibition.

Now based in Northern Ireland, Cervenak’s work has been displayed in Budapest, Helsinki, London, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Venice and Vienna. He now runs and owns Tibor Studio in Belfast, Ireland, where he has lived since 2004.

According to Flushing Town Hall, Cervenak called his current exhibit there a “dream.”

“Solo For Gold/Blue – Tibor Cervenak” is being support by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, Cervenak will participate in an exhibition lecture. While talking about his works, he will also detail his creative process and influences.

Flushing Town Hall’s gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The suggested admission is $5. It is free for members.
