Lois Christie’s motto is that “Beauty Changes Lives.”
It did for her, as president and CEO of Christie & Co. Salon • Spa in The Bay Terrace and president of Intercoiffure America/Canada.
And now, as an honoree of this year’s American Heart Association Queens Go Red for Women Breakfast she is giving back to heart surgery patients.
“She is a part of the Queens community, she always gives back,” said Jessica DiMeo, Senior Regional Director, Communications at American Heart Association. “Lois has gone out of her way to assist women with heart surgeries.”
And on Wednesday, April 27, Christie and her staff, along with Lydia Sarfati, president and founder of Repechage, gave women makeovers to show “how you can look good and feel better.”
“Christie & Co., which now has four new red lipsticks in honor of the Heart Association, takes a lot of pride in being more than a hair salon,” said Christie, celebrating 40 years in business in Bayside. “We really care about our clients, since we have the ability to change the way a client looks and feels.”
Aside from making over clients and even some reps from the Heart Association, the skilled staff also updated the look of Diane Sixsmith, M.D., Chair of Emergency Medicine at New York Hospital Queens and chair of this year’s event.
“I became a convert,” she joked after her makeover. “I had a colleague who said she could tell her patients were doing well when their makeup was done.”
The Queens Go Red for Women Breakfast, which will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 7:30 a.m. at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing, will also honor Jill Knee, Director of Community Outreach for the New York Mets.
“Personally, I have a heart issue,” said Knee. “It took a while to have it diagnosed, and I feel being a woman had a lot to do with it.
“We want to let women know to ask questions, take yourself seriously and trust the American Heart Association.”
