Extra trains for Memorial Day weekend
For one of the busiest travel weekends of the year the MTA is expanding services on Friday, May 27.
The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will increase their outbound service on Friday afternoon. The MTA Bridges and Tunnels will also suspend all routine maintenance work beginning at noon on Friday in anticipation of heavy traffic through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, May 31.
The LIRR will provide additional early afternoon train from Penn Station on May 27 and there is a Memorial Day package fare to Calverton National Cemetery on Saturday, May 28.
Sixteen additional trains will be provided by Metro-North on Friday. Memorial Day train will follow a Sunday schedule with an extra five trains on the New Haven line.

New York gas prices drop

After weeks of gas prices climbing towards record highs, drivers got a reprieve this week as prices reversed direction.

The average gas price in New York is $4.216, according to AAA’s fuel gauge report, almost seven cents lower than a week ago.

The price is still over a dollar more than customers were paying at the pump this time last year.

The highest recorded gas prices in the city were recorded on July 16, 2008 when the price hit $4.411. The average gas price nationally is $3.843, down more than ten cents from last week.
