They came. They saw. They networked.
With over 100 vendors and more than 1,000 business people from across the state in attendance, the Queens Business Breakfast and Expo generated a busy hum of excitement throughout the Caesars Club at Citi Field on May 24. The day began with special guest speaker Mortimer B. Zuckerman, chair and Editor-in-Chief of U.S. News & World Report and publisher of the New York Daily News, who shared his business insights through his experiences in the real estate market and the changing face of print media to online outlets.
“The Daily News has done really well in terms of its audience, its readership and it’s still great fun to get involved with a newspaper that touches on so many wonderful communities such as Queens and the rest of the boroughs of New York City,” said Zuckerman. “New York City has come through the last difficult years with the economy in remarkably good shape. New York has returned as the financial center of the United States and, indeed, the world.”
Zuckerman – a constant figure on the long-lived news-chat show “The McLaughlin Group” – focused most of his comments on the causes and effects of the current “unprecedented” recession, such as the burst of the housing bubble and misleading unemployment numbers. When asked about the possibility of a double-dip recession, Zuckerman said it would be hard to predict.
“Recessions proceeded by a financial crisis take a longer time to heal,” said Zuckerman, who will continue to remain cautiously optimistic.
Following the morning session, attendees had the opportunity to meet new business contacts and even win prizes at raffles that were held throughout the day. This was the third year in a row that the Chamber has held the Expo at Citi Field drawing rave reviews from exhibitors and attendees.
Event sponsors for this year’s Expo included AT&T, Community National Bank, Con Edison, Farrell Fritz, P.C., Karl Kramer & Company, National Grid, New York Daily News and Vu TelePresence.
