Extra trains scheduled for July 4 getaways

People looking to get a head start on their July 4 weekend will be happy to know the MTA will be adding extra service on Friday, July 1.
The LIRR will provide additional from Penn Station starting after 2 p.m. The extra service will include: three trains on the Port Jefferson Branch; three on the
Babylon Branch; two on the Port Washington Branch; one on the Far Rockaway Branch and two trains to Jamaica for Montauk train connections.
Metro-North will add extra getaway trains from Grand Central Station on July 1 starting in the early afternoon on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels will also suspend all maintenance work beginning at noon at July 1 through the end of the morning rush on July 5 to help ease traffic on their seven bridges and two tunnels.
On Independence Day, the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, L and 42nd Street S Shuttle will see increased service after the firework display is over. The fireworks are scheduled for between 9:20 p.m. and 9:50 p.m.
Leaving the city for the weekend also means having to return. Metro-North and LIRR trains will be running on a Sunday schedule on July 4 and the subway will on a Saturday schedule.
