As the North Shore Towers Tennis Association held its first open meeting of the newly started season, new members were welcomed and upcoming events were highlighted.
“It’s wonderful to see so many of you here tonight,” said association president Bobbi Gould. “You’re in for a great treat. We have so many good things planned for this year, chock full of interesting events and good food. We will have fun in the sun as we enjoy our tennis.”
Gould also said that the tennis group is very socially involved and that they “love to party.”
“I think we offer as much as any private country club,” she said. “We are great at supporting and caring for one another.”
The Tennis Association has many events planned for the 2011 season. There will be a special meet and greet for all Towers residents interested in the tennis program on Sunday, June 15 and “Day at the Races” at Belmont Park on Wednesday, June 15.
July activities will include a holiday event on Sunday, July 3 and open tennis meeting on Thursday, July 21. The meeting will include a potluck dinner to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Additionally, the Towers will host a USTA Level IB Challenger for boys and girls 10 to 18 from July 5 to July 10 and the USTA L1 North Shore Towers Country Club Championship, also for boys and girls 10 to 18, from July 26 to July 31.
On Thursday, August 4, members will gather for a pro-am event, pizza get together and open tennis meeting. A tennis event, the details of which will be announced, will also be held on Wednesday, August 17.
A tennis Labor Day event will be held on Sunday, September 4. Members will get together to watch the U.S. Open on Sunday, September 11. A closing dinner will be held on Wednesday, September 14.
Gould also reminded association members that, on Saturdays and Sundays mornings, they have bagels and coffee at the tennis courts.
Tennis Pro Rick Bates told members that “the courts are in great shape.
“It’s very exciting to see that we have a lot of enthusiasm this year, a lot of new people coming down [to the courts],” he said. “Tennis is something that brings people together. The main thing is just to have fun.”
