Little Leaguers meet with Darryl

By the end of the season, they were all-stars.
FGS of the Bayside Little League played to a losing record in the first half of the season, but a strong finish earned them first place in their division and a visit from Mets-great Darryl Strawberry.
The team struggled with a 4-5 record before turning it on midway through the season. They went 8-1 the rest of the way – good enough for a 12-6 record and first place in the west division of Texas Bayside Little League. The team’s sponsor and coaches treated the players and their families to dinner at Strawberry’s Sports Grill in Douglaston and the restaurant arranged for the slugger to stop by and say hello to the kids.
Strawberry took time to sign baseballs, bats, jerseys and baseball cards. He also took pictures with everyone that asked, giving the kids the thrill of a lifetime. In addition, former Yankees third baseman Charlie Hayes was also there dining and he was gracious enough to sign some autographs as well. However, he did have to close his eyes when one of the players gave him a Mets hat to sign.
