For the first time since their formation in 1958, the Flushing Rotary unanimously voted Veronica Tsang as the first female, Asian-American Rotary President. Her recent installation ceremony at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing was an opportunity to thank her supporters, former president Dan Flori and lay her platform for the Rotarian year.
“I was always intrigued about the Flushing Rotary Club and the selfless undertakings of their members who serve the community. They truly live the spirit of service above self,” said Tsang, a senior vice president of Cathay Bank and former vice-president of the Flushing Rotary.
Tsang stressed the importance of continuing to support programs such as Rotary International Polio Plus, Ronald McDonald House and the Gift of Life program, an organization that works hand in hand with Rotary clubs to facilitate free medical services to children suffering from congenital heart defects and other similar illnesses who would otherwise lack access to such services.
Tsang hopes to see more membership participation, a strengthened fellowship between members and the community, more speakers at events and new members attracted to the club during her term which began on July 1 and end on June 30.
“Being the President of the Flushing Rotary Club is like a conductor in an orchestra, I need all my fellow Rotarians to work with me so we are in sync and make beautiful music together,” said Tsang.
