Voters should decide candidates

A special election has been approved by Gov. Andrew Cuomo for Sept. 13 for former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s congressional seat.

Now the Democratic leadership has chosen state Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Little Neck) to run for the seat against Republican candidate Bob Turner. My question is, “What, no primary?”

Whatever happen to the nation of the people, by the people, for the people? I thought we lived in a democracy. Are not candidates to be chosen by the people voting for the candidate of their choice who can best serve the needs of the people?

As a voter, I feel this is wrong.
