CARIBEAT: Sam Archer to start e-zine site soon

He’s best known for reaching millions through his music, but Tobago-born singer-songwriter Sam Archer is set to open a medium for reaching the masses – an online magazine called Muzilog.
Music, entertainment news and feature articles and stories on culture will be featured in the Internet publication, which will officially kick off at an August 28 launch event in Brooklyn.
The web site, which is already up and running, is clean, easy to navigate and loaded with information.
New music releases, soca, fashion and beauty, R&B, jazz, gospel and pop music were some of the many topics available last week on the site.
“It’s the right time to launch Muzilog, providing a haven for information and updates on issues that matter about the ever-changing entertainment industry,” said Archer, who was born in the village of Mount Pleasant in Tobago and studied in the Caribbean before coming to America.
Archer penned the soulful ballad “Baby Girl” that was part of the R&B group B2K’s 2001 gold-selling debut album and was featured in the first “Barbershop” movie. He also wrote music that has been used on the game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” the “Dr. 90210” plastic surgeon reality show and the TLC network real-estate program “Property Ladder.”
“Muzilog started out as a class project, which was to create a blog,” said Archer, who developed the concept for the publication while a student at New York City Technical College in Brooklyn.
“This exercise reawakened my drive as a writer and opened doors to cover events and interview artists,” added the songwriter, who also wrote for the school paper and contributed music reviews to publication Big Apple After 5 while in college.
Entertainment for the launch event – at Café Omar, 1744 Nostrand Avenue (between Clarendon and Cortelyou Roads) – will include performances by Sharice Styles, Carolyn Harding, lead singer Deuel Anderson of Ninja Band International and Bud Ramsay, featuring F.Y.R.E Zone.
There also will be a presentation, fashion show and display by Xcell, cultural dancing by Purple Roses and music from deejays Musical Mix and Jason Benn.
