Cops rescue woman pinned by tree

It was truly a crisis averted.
On Sunday, August 28, after Hurricane Irene’s driving rains and pounding winds subsided, officers of the 105th Precinct rescued a woman pinned under a tree in Alley Pond Park.
Unsure of where the 49-year-old was trapped, Deputy Inspector Joseph Courtesis indicated a path which officers followed, searching the baseball fields and tennis courts.
It was then that Sergeant Jude Reimbeau suggested to Officer John McCoy that they begin searching the woods.
“All of a sudden we heard someone,” said McCoy. “There was a kid; he pointed, we look over and the woman is there.”
The Fresh Meadows resident was laying face up, the tree straight across her.
“It didn’t look good,” said McCoy. “She literally couldn’t move. The tree was kind of big.”
So McCoy and Reimbeau, along with Officers Gonzalez and Lettieri began to pull off branches as the FDNY and EMS get to the scene.
After some very tense minutes, the woman was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
