Peppermint twisting the night away

Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr. rocked and rolled at the final free concert at Astoria Park on August 11.
The performance, which was hosted by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, featured Joey Dee and the Starliters. The band played a two-hour set, including their hit single “Peppermint Twist” and several other well-known covers.
Vallone, who is a talented bass player, joined the show as a drummer for two Beatles covers.
“There’s almost nothing better than a summer evening at Astoria Park with free music,” said Vallone. “Thanks to the hard work of the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, our residents are treated to great music, fireworks and activities – and an opportunity for me to practice the drums.”
The weekly concerts, which were along the Astoria Park waterfront, were held during July and August and were funded by the councilmember. – Michael Pantelidis
