It’s been 10 years since America was attacked by terrorists on a crisp, clear Tuesday morning. Since that day, America has changed immensely and these changes will be on display during an array of upcoming 9/11 inspired events.
? On September 10, 2011 in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City is hosting a multi-media exhibition called “Witness – A Look Back To The Future.” Works emblematic of the neighborhood and human community before, during and after the tragedy will be on display from 5 to 8 p.m.
? The Municipal Art Society of New York (MAS) will once again present Tribute in Light, its iconic memorial honoring the victims of the September 11 World Trade Center attacks, from dusk on Sunday, September 11, 2011 until dawn on Monday, September 12, 2011.
? The United States Navy has agreed to anchor the USS New York off lower Manhattan to join the 10th anniversary ceremonies of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ship will anchor off Manhattan to provide a backdrop for the day’s services, and will port for several days at a New York pier before the ceremony.
? Queens Museum of Art will be offering free admission on September 10 and 11 in commemoration of the terrorist attacks. Reflect on the city, the history and the Twin Towers – which still stand in the Panorama of the City of New York.
? On Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 8:46 a.m., thousands of people will grasp hands in Lower Manhattan as part of “Hand in Hand – Remembering 9/11,” a public, community event presented by Chairperson Julie Menin and Manhattan Community Board 1 and numerous supporters. The event, along Lower Manhattan’s west side waterfront, and just one day shy of the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, is intended to bring people together to stand in unity in remembrance.
? On Sunday, September 11, at 1 p.m., Glen Oaks Village will honor the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces with “Tribute in Triangle Park” at Little Neck Parkway and 75th Avenue. The park has a seating area, a tall flag that will be lit up at night and visible from Little Neck Parkway and an inscribed bronze plaque set into a large stone boulder with plantings all around. If you or a family member are serving in the Armed Forces or have a personal 9/11 story to tell, they invite you to say a few words at the ceremony. ? On Sunday, September 11, at 7 p.m., Bayside Hills Civic Association (BHCA) will conduct a 9/11 ceremony on Horace Harding Expressway and Bell Boulevard. In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the attacks, the BHCA will unveil two pieces of the World Trade Center steel artifacts, donated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Many illustrious guests are expected to be in attendance, and the organizers ask that you please bring memorial candles.
