BAYSIDE — Two Woodhaven teens were arrested last week after they stole a woman’s car and damaged it along with other autos when they were apprehended, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
Ryan Schultz, of 88th Place, and Matthew Maguire, of 69th Place, both 17, were arraigned Oct. 11 on several charges, including assault, grand theft auto and reckless driving, for the ordeal that took place on 218th Street, the DA’s office said.
The owner of the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder said she parked her SUV on the block around 8:42 p.m. Oct. 10 and then heard its engine start, but when she returned to the spot it was gone, the criminal complaint said.
A few hours later, a police officer spotted the stolen car with Schultz and Maguire in the seats, according to the complaint. When the officer approached the Pathfinder and told he was a member of service, Maguire allegedly drove in reverse at a speed of 40 mph and struck the car behind him, according to the complaint.
The suspects got out of the car but kept the engine running, and as a result it struck the vehicle that was right in front of it, the complaint said.
While the officer attempted to put Schultz in handcuffs, the suspect allegedly fought back and knocked the officer to the ground, according to the complaint.
Officers found five vials that contained marijuana from the driver’s seat, the complaint said.
