Took Cash, Then Hit Victim In Mouth
A Bronx man was arraigned last Wednesday, Feb. 29 for his alleged role in the armed robbery and assault of a man in Ridgewood in January, police reported.
Steven Garcia, 23, of Teller Avenue in the Mount Eden neighborhood of the Bronx, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery and assault.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Garcia was arrested on Feb. 27 by members of the 104th Precinct for the Jan. 19 gunpoint robbery of a 31-year-old man in front of a home on Palmetto Street between Fresh Pond Road and 60th Place.
On 12:15 a.m. on that date, according to the criminal complaint, Garcia and an accomplice allegedly approached the victim, displayed what appeared to be a firearm and asked the man to empty his pockets. Garcia allegedly took a wallet, cell phone and money from the victim.
The accomplice then allegedly displayed a switchblade, punched the victim and ripped off his necklace, after which Garcia reportedly hit the victim in the face with his firearm, causing bleeding and swelling and chipping his tooth.
The two then reportedly fled on foot.
Garcia did not post bail. He will next appear in court on Mar. 13.
