Borrow E- Readers at Queens Library

Devices Pre-Loaded With Novels

The Queens Borough Public Library has launched a pilot program to lend 50 e-readers pre-loaded with e-books to library card holders at the Central branch in Jamaica.

The Queens Borough Public Library will be lending 50 e-readers (similar to ones shown in this photo) at their Central branch in Jamaica.

As noted, it is the first time the service has been made available in one of the city’s public library systems. The e-readers have books on one of five themes: best sellers, romances, mysteries, teen literature and children’s literature.

There are also 50 works of classic literature loaded onto each tablet.

Library users may present a Queens Library card and a photo ID to check out the devices free for seven days with the option to renew twice.

E-readers are compact, light- weight and hold many volumes simultaneously.

They are particularly convenient when traveling and for those who find having many books in their pockets to be helpful.

Because the size of the text and the lighting are adjustable, the ereaders are easy to view for a variety of residents.

As the pilot program is evaluated and funding becomes available, ereaders will be introduced to other library locations.
