JAMAICA — A woman from Guyana came to New York with more on her mind than jet lag.
According to the U.S. District Court, Kiana Howell was arrested Sept. 23 at John F. Kennedy International Airport after U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents discovered more than 2 pounds of cocaine sewn into her hair weave.
The U.S. District Court said in its criminal complaint Howell claimed her boyfriend in Guyana told her to bring the package to the country for him and that she would be paid $7,500 for the task.
The complaint also said that although she did not know what the packaged contained, she knew it was not a good thing.
