Steps Off the Curb to Death

Man Fatally Hit By Car In Woodhaven

Trying to cross a busy roadway in Woodhaven proved to be a deadly trip for a 67-year-old man who was fatally struck by a car last Wednesday night, Feb. 13, police reported.

The victim was identified by law enforcement sources as Mostafa Mirbahar of 89th Avenue in Jamaica.

Reportedly, the accident occurred just before 9 p.m. last Wednesday at the corner of Woodhaven Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue.

According to information obtained by police, Mirbahar stepped off a traffic island at the intersection and walked westbound along Jamaica Avenue across Woodhaven Boulevard.

As he did so, police noted, the man was struck by a 2002 Honda accord operated by a 58-year-old man which was traveling northbound on the boulevard’s right lane. The driver reportedly remained at the scene after the accident occurred.

Members of the 102nd Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call about the incident. Emergency personnel found Mirbahar in the middle of the street with severe face and head trauma.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No charges were filed against the driver, and no criminality is suspected, authorities noted.

The NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, police said.
