Maspeth Kid Killed On Way To School

A Maspeth teenager never made it to class on Monday morning, Mar. 11, after he was killed by a minivan that lost control, jumped the sidewalk and struck him on his walk to school in Long Island City, it was reported.

Police identified the victim as 16- year-old Drudak Tenzin, who according to multiple published reports attended the High School of Applied Communication.

Law enforcement sources said the accident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Monday at the corner of 30th Street and Thomson Avenue, a short distance from nearby LaGuardia Community College.

According to information obtained by police, a man was behind the wheel of a 2002 Dodge Caravan traveling eastbound on Thomson Av- enue when the vehicle suddenly swerved.

The New York Daily News reported that the driver lost control of his minivan as he attempted to reach a carton of milk that fell onto the floor.

Police said the minivan then mounted the sidewalk and struck Tenzin and four other individuals.

Members of the 108th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene. All of the pedestrians were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment.

Tenzin was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries, while the other victims were listed in stable condition.

Reportedly, the driver of the minivan was issued a summons for not having insurance for his vehicle. No other charges were filed, and no criminality is suspected.

The NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, police said.
