Dies Steps Away From Hospital

Though medical help was close by, a man could not be saved after being struck by a bus while crossing a busy street in Elmhurst last Wednesday night, Apr. 3, according to police.

Law enforcement sources said the male victim-whose identity was not disclosed-was fatally hit while attempting to cross Broadway in front of Elmhurst Hospital Center near Baxter Avenue at around 7:36 p.m. last Wednesday.

According to information obtained by police, the man walked in between two parked cars and into the roadway when he was struck by a Q53 bus traveling southbound on Broadway.

The bus driver stopped the rig and remained at the scene following the accident.

Officers from the 110th Precinct, EMS units and paramedics rushed to the scene. The man was brought inside Elmhurst Hospital’s emergency room, where he died a short time later from his injuries.

No charges were filed against the driver, and no criminality was suspected, authorities noted.

The NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, police said.
