The construction of an aeration plant along the Newtown Creek in Maspeth and the upcoming Relay for Life in Middle Village highlight the next meeting of Community Board 5 scheduled to take place this Wednesday night, May 8.
As announced by District Manager Gary Giordano, the session will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria of Christ the King Regional High School, located at 68-02 Metropolitan Ave. in Middle Village.
A representative from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will provide a presentation regarding plans for the installation of a Newtown Creek oxygen aeration system at 58-26 47th St. in Maspeth. As previously reported, the system is designed to inject oxygen into the creek in the hope of making the long-polluted waterway able to handle aquatic life.
The meeting will also feature a presentation by Alex Maureau regarding the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, an overnight fund-raiser scheduled to take place between Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23, at Middle Village’s Juniper Valley Park.
The agenda also includes the public forum, reports by Giordano and Chairperson Vincent Arcuri, committee reports, a review of liquor license applications and demolition notices and nominations for Executive Committee positions.
