Non- Profit Partnership Helps Clean Up Biz Strip In Corona

Say It Will Help Attract New Customers

City Council Member Julissa Ferreras stood on 37th Avenue and Junction Boulevard in Corona with The Doe Fund Founder and President George McDonald, Community Board 3 Chairperson Marta Lebreton, Board 3 District Manager Giovanna Reid and a number of local business owners last Tuesday, Apr. 23, to announce a new partnership with The Doe Fund.

City Council Member Julissa Ferreras joined Community Board 3 Chairperson Marta Lebreton, Board 3 District Manager Giovanna Reid and Doe Fund Founder and President George McDonald on Junction Boulevard and 37th Avenue in Corona last Tuesday to announce the introduction of the Doe Fund’s supplemental sanitation services to the shopping area.

As part of efforts to enhance the commercial corridors in the 21st Council District, Ferreras has allocated $32,000 for clean-up services provided by crew members from The Doe Fund’s Ready, Willing & Able Program.

“In celebration of Earth Day, I am proud to announce a new partnership with The Doe Fund to help keep our streets clean,” Ferreras said. “By working with their wonderful crew members from the Ready, Willing & Able Program to maintain cleanliness of our key business corridors, I look forward to attracting more tourists and patrons to our diverse assortment of small businesses.”

Since Mar. 18, the clean-up crew has been routinely sweeping the streets and collecting garbage every Monday, Thursday and Saturday along 37th Avenue from 90th Street to 104th Street and 104th Street from 37th Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue.

“On behalf of the Members of Community Board 3, we commend Council Member Ferreras for contracting The Doe Fund to provide additional sanitation services to Corona, one of the busiest commercial corridors within the district,” Reid said. “Increasing litter basket collections and the removal of sidewalk debris will make our streets cleaner, and in turn attract more business and increase community pride.”

During the public announcement, McDonald noted the allocation of discretionary funding by Ferreras for the services not only contributes to the livelihood for members of the Ready, Willing & Able Program- who are working to end the devastating cycles of homelessness, incarceration and addiction through paid transitional work and training- but also enhances the quality of life for the community.

For each clean-up day, four members of the program have been assigned to the route.

“I would like to thank Council Member Ferreras for inviting The Doe Fund to maintain 37th Avenue and 104th Street in North Corona,” said McDonald. “We’re looking forward to cultivating a long and productive relationship with the North Corona community, while providing the ‘men in blue’ with critical opportunities to achieve self sufficiency.”

From the brief period that the Doe Fund has already conducted the services, Ferreras pointed out that a visible enhancement to the area has been made. A number of small business owners who attended the announcement expressed their gratitude for the services, which are scheduled to continue over the course of approximately seven months.

“Standing here on the sidewalk, you can already see the difference our partnership with The Doe Fund has made,” Ferreras concluded. “I look forward to continuing my collaboration with the crew along with local business owners and residents to achieve a sustainable avenue to keep our streets clean for years to come.”
