Fifty people were evacuated from eight buildings in Astoria Wednesday evening after high levels of carbon monoxide were detected, said the FDNY.
Officials ordered the evacuation around 7:30 p.m. following a manhole fire near the residential buildings along 31st Drive.
One person was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, said the FDNY.
Some of the residents have been allowed back in the buildings, but Con Ed is still investigating and checking the air quality.
