Back-To-Back Stickups In Elmhurst

Elmhurst was the scene of two gunpoint robberies in the early morning hours of last Thursday, Jan. 9, police stated.

The first went down at 2:35 a.m. near 56th Avenue and 90th Street according to an email circulated to civic leaders by the 110th Precinct’s Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Ronald Leyson.

Leyson said two black males approached a woman and demanded, at gunpoint, that she get into their car. The pair removed cash, a phone and credit cards from the woman before ordering her out of the vehicle and fleeing the scene, police sources said.

The vehicle was described as a black Honda sedan.

The second incident went down around 3:45 a.m. According to police, a woman was walking down Grand Avenue toward Seabury Street when she noticed she was being followed by a man in a hooded jacket and a black Honda sedan.

The man approached the woman, displayed a firearm and removed her pocketbook, wallet and phone before pushing her to the ground and fleeing in the direction of the vehicle, police reports stated.

The suspect in the second incident was described as a black male in his 30s standing about 5’10”-tall and wearing a blue hooded jacket.

Police could not verify whether the incidents are related, and Leyson could not be reached as of press time Wednesday.

The investigations are ongoing, police said.
