Local Senior Killed Walking In Parking Lot

A Forest Hills man died after being struck by a truck as it backed up inside a neighborhood supermarket’s parking lot last Wednesday morning, May 21, according to police.

Law enforcement sources identified the victim as 67-year-old Elliot Mintzer, who resided at an apartment house on the Grand Central Parkway service road in Forest Hills.

Reportedly, the fatal accident took place at about 9:17 a.m. last Wednesday in the rear parking lot of the Key Food supermarket located at 105-35 64th Rd., off 108th Street.

According to information obtained by police, Mintzer was struck by a tractor-trailer as it backed up inside the parking lot. He was reportedly run over by the trailer’s rear wheels.

Following the accident, the truck’s driver remained at the scene, it was noted.

Officers from the 112th Precinct and EMS units responded to the incident; Mintzer, who suffered severe body trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges were filed against the driver, and no criminality is suspected, sources stated.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry, police said.
