South Ozone Pk. Man Hit Phone Pole

While riding his motorcycle, a South Ozone Park man fatally crashed into a utility pole on a Far Rockaway street last Friday, July 4, law enforcement sources reported.

He was identified by police as Marcus J. Joel, 26, of 117th Street.

The deadly crash reportedly occurred at 6:08 p.m. last Friday at the corner of Seagirt Boulevard and Beach 13th Street.

According to information obtained by police, Joel was riding a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Seagirt Boulevard when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle, which struck a curb on the south side of the roadway.

Seconds later, law enforcement sources said, the cycle struck a wooden utility pole, throwing Joel from his ride.

Officers from the 101st Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene. Paramedics brought the victim, who suffered severe body trauma, to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries related to the crash were reported, authorities noted.

An inquiry by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
