By Juan Soto

The Queens Central Library will close its doors for a day Aug. 11 to complete work to renovate the customer service and circulation areas.

The central branch, at 89-11 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica, will reopen the next day, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., according to library spokeswoman.

The new space, with new decor, will feature 10 self-check-out stations and the self-service check-ins will return to service.

The renovation of these areas is part of a $20.2 million reform project that is being done in several phases, this way, the library remains open while the work is completed.

The full renovation is expected to be finished in 2015.

More than 2 million people visit the Queens Central Library every year.

In the past two years, a new cyber center opened at the location, as well as renovated adult reading, reference and teen areas.
