Holistic group plans chamber in Bayside

By Gina Martinez

The Holistic Chamber of Commerce is coming to Bayside Feb 21 when it will host a Holistic Expo and Bazaar to celebrate the launch of its new chapter in Queens.

The expo will introduce the community to holistic services that are not readily offered in the Bayside neighborhood. Naini Nakagawa, the Queens chapter president, said Bayside is the perfect place to launch the HCC

“Bayside is a growing community of holistic businesses and wellness centers. It is also very convenient for Manhattan folks and people from Long Island to come to Bayside for holistic networking events. In Queens, we have a large population and a community that really values those products and services.”

Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person, body, mind, spirit and emotions in the quest for optimal health and wellness. Its practices include acupuncture, massage therapy and naturopathy, which favor herbs and natural remedies over pharmaceutical drugs ,among many others. The HCC plans to provide those many alternative services to the residents of Queens.

“Holistic medicine practitioners believe that the whole person is made up of interdependent parts and if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be affected. In this way, if people have imbalances (physical, emotional, or spiritual) in their lives, it can negatively affect their overall health, “Nakagawa said. “With a vision of healthy people on a healthy planet, the Holistic Chamber of Commerce is weaving together an international movement promoting holistic, natural and sustainable products, services and solutions.“

The HCC currently has 70 chapters across the United States and Canada. It was founded by Camille Leon.

The expo is scheduled to be held in All Saints Episcopal Church at 214-35 40th Ave. from 4p.m. to 9 p.m.
