SPRINGFIELD GARDENS—A 60-year-old Long Island man died in a collision after midnight Aug. 5 near Rockaway Boulevard in Springfield Gardens, according to police officials.
Donald Angrum, from Hempstead, who was driving a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, was pronounced dead on his way to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center by emergency medical service respondents, police said.
Officers said that they observed two vehicles and both drivers sustained head and back injuries in the accident.
The second victim of the accident was an unidentified 41-year-old man who drove a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. He was listed in stable condition, according to police.
The NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the man driving the Impala was traveling westbound on Rockaway Boulevard at International Airport Center Boulevard, in the center travel lane, when Angrum, traveling eastbound on Rockaway Boulevard, made a U-turn in front of him.
As a result of this maneuver, both cars struck each other towards the rear passenger side of the vehicle, according to officials.
There were no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.
