Chelsea Clinton and Councilman Donovan Richards led a team of volunteers Saturday morning in cleaning up Brookville Park as part of a “Day of Action” helping areas damaged during Hurricane Sandy three years ago.
The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton organized the first Day of Action three years ago in collaboration with The Clinton Foundation, her father’s international charitable organization.
Joining Chelsea Clinton and Richards in Saturday’s effort were members of the city Parks Department, the Partnership for Parks and the St. Bernard Project, a Louisiana-based nonprofit originally founded to help the state recover from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 that assisted in rebuilding areas of the northeast battered by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.
Since starting the first Day of Action following Hurricane Sandy, the Clinton Foundation tweeted, more than 5,000 volunteers donated in excess of 22,000 hours of their time improving storm-battered areas.

While being spruced up in the near term, Brookville Park is set to undergo a major renovation in the months ahead. In September, Richards and the Parks Department announced that plans were moving forward on a $1.7 million project bringing flood lights to tennis courts, additional seating at the park’s athletic turf field and a reconfigured picnic area.
