A 19-year-old Flushing man was arrested in the fatal beating of his father Friday night, according to the NYPD. Officers from the 111th Precinct, responding to an assault in progress, discovered 57-year-old Ioannis Safetis unconscious and unresponsive in front of 47-05 Utopia Parkway.

The victim sustained trauma on the left side of his head and scratches to his face, police say. Safetis was transported to New York-Presbyterian Queens where he was pronounced deceased, officials say.

His son Dimitrios was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD. A blood-spattered car club safety device was recovered at the scene, police say.
