Subway passenger dragged to death in Kew Gardens

By Gabriel Rom

A subway passenger was dragged to his death Monday night after he got stuck in the doors of an F train as it left a Kew Gardens subway station, MTA officials said.

Edward Leonard, 51, attempted to board a southbound train in the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station around 6:45 p.m. when the doors closed on him, an MTA spokesman said.

Leonard, who had been living in South Ozone Park’s Skyway homeless shelter, was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

The MTA and the Transit Workers Union were unable to say how the man got struck.

Investigators were questioning the train crew, who are also being tested for any traces of drugs and alcohol, an MTA spokeswoman said.

The NYPD was also investigating the incident.
