A middle-aged man died after a house fire broke in St. Albans yesterday morning.
Twelve FDNY units responded to an emergency call at 9:16 a.m. on Monday, April 18. Upon arrival at 205-16 113th Rd., the emergency units observed heavy fire at the second floor of a two-story residential house. The blaze, which was classified as a one-alarm fire, was put under control at 9:47 a.m., according to FDNY.
A 52-year-old man was still inside of the burning house. After FDNY removed him from the blaze, he was in an unresponsive and unconscious condition. The man was transported to Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica, where he died on arrival. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
Daily News reported that the victim was a retired firefighter who died rescuing his wife.
FDNY reports one other minor injury.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire marshal.
