Silvercup Studios has opened its third film and television production facility, its first outside of Long Island City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Silvercup North, a 115,000-square-foot space in a former Port Morris warehouse in the Bronx.
“Silvercup Studios is a great New York success story, whose growth and strength parallels everything going on in the Bronx right now,” Cuomo said. “This expansion will help create hundreds of good-paying jobs, generating millions of dollars to local businesses and further build upon New York’s booming film industry.”
The Long Island City-based Silvercup Studios, home to such hit TV shows such as Girls and Madame Secretary, invested nearly $35 million in the project that features four production studios with 50-foot-high ceilings as well as on-site production offices, extensive set, prop and wardrobe storage areas. Silvercup Studios opened in 1983 in what was the former landmark Silvercup Bakery and with its current expansion now has a total of 23 studios with 500,000 square feet of production space.
“Port Morris is the perfect location for our newest studio,” Silvercup Studios President Stuart Suna said. “We expect Silvercup North to be a big success for us, the productions we support, and the local community.”
